What is Upward Bound?
Upward Bound (UB) provides a program of instruction, tutoring, academic and career guidance, personal counseling, and residential life to high school students recruited in the 9th and 10th grades, who are potential first generation college students and attend designated Detroit high schools and Inkster High School. The Upward Bound Program also provides a Summer Instructional/Residential Program. Students participate in a intensive six-week academic program on the campus of Wayne State University.One-hundred high school students from Detroit and Inkster high schools take classes in science, math, English, reading and special electives. The object is to motivate and inspire these young minds to enroll in a post-secondary institution. In order to assure that these students get a true college experience, they are given the opportunity to live on campus in residence units while taking classes.
