Eligibility for Services
Eligibility for TRIO Student Support Services is a selective process. The selection process ensures compliance with the United States Department of Education Student Support Services program regulations.
The applicant must:
- Must apply for admission to WSU at www.apply.wayne.edu.
- Be a citizen or national of the United States or meet the residency requirement for federal student financial assistance, and qualify as first generation and/or low-income status as determined by completing a current TRIO Student Support Service Intake Form.
- Have taken American College Test (ACT). Refer www.act.org for further details.
- Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current academic year.
- Complete and submit the FAFSA for the upcoming academic year.
- Complete and submit a TRIO Summer Housing application.
- Interview with TRIO/SSS staff.
- Submit a 200-250 word essay (topic to be determined).
- Submit parent’s previous year federal taxes

Each applicant must take the American College Test (ACT) and a battery of diagnostic and counseling tests. These tests are used for academic placement and as counseling tools. They are not used as a requirement for admission to the program. The ACT should be scheduled through the applicants' high school or by contacting the Wayne State University Testing and Evaluation Center at (313) 577-3400.
