Orientation
During May and June, the Wayne State University KCP College Day Program brings the entire seventh-grade population from each of the eight target middle schools to campus to participate in the introductory component, the 7th Grade Orientation. The orientation involves presentations about the mission, goals and benefits of enrollment in the voluntary follow-up component - the Vision Club. Students participate in male/female social and academic responsibility workshops, lunch and campus tour. The orientation concludes with students being given the opportunity to enroll in the program by completing the Vision Club Membership Application.

First Semester
During the first semester the KCP counselors conduct a series of in-school presentations/workshops to Vision Club members, grades 8-12 at each of the 30 target middle and high schools. The focus of the presentations/workshops is grade-level appropriate college preparatory information.

Second Semester
In the second semester, Vision Club members make campus-based visitations. In March, the annual College & Career Fair for 9th –12th students is held in the Student Center Building. Students have small group interactions with representatives from Metro Detroit-area postsecondary institutions and professionals from a wide range of career fields. Wayne State University ambassador’s students conduct campus tours. The College Day Program staff conducts participatory workshops, which highlight high school preparation for postsecondary education.

In April and May, the eighth grade Vision Club members make campus visits (mentorship activity) to university academic units based upon the six Career Pathways approach. Using pre-visit Career Pathways interest surveys, students are matched with university academic departments that fall within one of the six Career Pathways Clusters. Students meet with WSU faculty, staff and students in small groups with activities demonstrations, discussion and tours of facilities, to learn about career opportunities related to those academic departments.
